Quantum glossary
Qubit
The basic unit of quantum information. Unlike a normal bit (0 or 1), a qubit can be in a mix of both.
Superposition
A qubit being in a combination of 0 and 1 at the same time until it is measured.
Entanglement
A link between qubits so that the state of one is tied to the state of the other, even far apart.
Measurement
Looking at a qubit. It settles into 0 or 1, and the mix is lost.
Quantum gate
An operation on qubits, like a logic gate in a normal computer. Circuits are built from gates.
Decoherence
When noise from the surroundings destroys the delicate quantum state. It is the main enemy of quantum computers.
